10 Funny 90s Movies You Need to Rewatch Soon

If you ask any movie buff to name their favorite movies of all time, odds are they’re going to list a few classics that came out in the 1990s. The decade was jam-packed with unforgettable films from every single genre, including comedy.

From slapstick comedies to dude humor, the 90s had a little something for everyone. There were plenty of laughs to be had, and to be honest, I still die laughing at the movies on the list to this day.

Anyway, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Here are 10 funny 90s movies that continue to tickle our funny bones in the 2020s…

10. ‘Dumb and Dumber’ (1994)

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were SO wonderful in Dumb and Dumber. I love the duo’s hilarious adventure together. And Jim Carrey’s over-the-top physical comedy is never not hilarious.

This is an all-timer, you guys.

9. ‘Groundhog Day’ (1993)

Bill Murray playing a weatherman forced to relive the same day over and over again? That sounds so stupid, yet somehow it works? And I love it? That’s so 90s.

Seriously, Murray’s deadpan humor (and the clever script) make Groundhog Day one of the best movies of the decade.

8. ‘The Mask’ (1994)

Jim Carrey is back, this time with his 1994 classic The Mask. Carrey basically helps bring a comic book to life and to be honest, I don’t think any other actor could have made this film work. Not in the 90s and not 30 years later.

Plus, Cameron Diaz is a total smoke show in every scene that she is in.

7. Home Alone (1990)

Kevin McCallister might just be the coolest kid of the 1990s.

His ingenious traps, combined with the antics of the Wet Bandits, make up the wonderfulness that is Home Alone. It’s simply not Christmastime until I’ve watched this movie at least once while drinking some eggnog.

Hot take? Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is even better.

6. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

Mike Myers first introduced the world to Austin Powers in 1997. And while it might not be the best Mike Myers film (I love you, Shrek), it’s one of the best comedies of the 1990s.

It even spawned two sequels, but neither was as good as the OG.

5. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

Robin Williams was an absolute genius. And that genius was never more obvious than it was in Mrs. Doubtfire.

This heartwarming film tells the story of a father who goes to extreme lengths to spend time with his children. It’s a bit hard to watch sometimes, however, since Williams’ passing in 2014. But if you ever miss Mr. Williams, this is the film to go back to to remember him for what he was: the best.

4. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)

Jim Carrey strikes again — he made a ton of funny 90s movies!

This time it’s with his iconic role as Ace Ventura. This goofy detective movie is another 90s film that makes absolutely no sense on paper. And it shouldn’t have been a box office smash, but it was because 1994 Jim Carrey could not miss.

3. Clueless (1995)

This teen comedy, which is loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, made high school feel like the coolest place on earth. Alicia Silverstone’s portrayal of the fashionable Cher Horowitz helped turn Clueless into one of the decade’s absolute best films.

Also, do you remember that yellow outfit? I need it.

2. Wayne’s World (1992)

Wayne’s World took Wayne and Garth from Saturday Night Live and thew them up on the big screen.

Mike Myers and Dana Carvey’s chemistry — coupled with the film’s insane humor — turned this rock-and-roll comedy into a must-see movie for comedy fans. And if you haven’t seen this one yet, do so ASAP, because I quote it 24/7.

1. The Big Lebowski (1998)

The Coen Brothers delivered a unique and hilarious film with 1998’s The Big Lebowski.

Jeff Bridges’ “The Dude” became an iconic character after this hit theaters. And the film’s absurd plot, plus the performances of the cast, have made it a cult classic.
